Black Opal Ventures is a venture capital firm with offices in New York City and San Francisco that invests in early phase companies using deep tech to improve healthcare. The Firm launched in 2022 and is actively seeking investments in this space.
Program Overview
The Fellowship is a 3-month long program in which you will have the opportunity to learn about venture capital while participating in Black Opal Ventures’ investment process and thesis development. With a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week, Fellows will help source investment opportunities, conduct diligence on live deals, research market trends, and develop independent investment theses—all with support, mentorship, and training from the Black Opal general partners and team. Additionally, Fellows will have the opportunity to join the BOV Institute to learn more about the basic mechanics of venture capital including term sheets, negotiation, board representation, and financial analysis. Fellows are invited to participate in Black Opal Ventures activities, including team meetings, pitch calls with founders, diligence calls, and more.

Qualifications

Passion for driving innovation in healthcare, IT, and life sciences

3+ years of work experience in a relevant sector (Healthcare, IT, Gov't policy) OR pursuing an MBA, MD, JD, MPH, or a tech-focused master’s degree

Mission-focused work experience preferred but not required

Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

Self-starter who can work efficiently while unsupervised

Qualifications

3+ years of work experience in a technical sector (IT, Robotics, Engineering) OR pursuing a tech-focused master’s degree

Knowledge of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, or synthetic biology

Familiarity with software development, cloud infrastructure, data analytics tools, cybersecurity

Ability to conduct due diligence on technology stacks, intellectual property, and team capabilities
